Coriander is not just a spice but also an effective medicine. According to Ayurved, coriander maintains the equilibrium of tridoshas, relieves swelling, pain, improves digestive fire, helps in digestion, it activates liver, quenches thirst, overcomes blood impurities, kapha, makes the brain active, brings down the temperature. It contains an evaporable oil, therefore it should be stored in airtight jars and kept in cool place otherwise it could lose its medicinal quality if the oil evaporates.
MEDICINAL USE
Eye disease - Grind 20 gm coriander and boil in glassful water, sieve and pour one drop in each eye to relieve conjunctivitis or eye pain. It relieves burning sensation in eyes and controls watering or pus formation.
Mix coriander juice in the breast milk of mother having a daughter and pour one drop in each eye to relieve pain.
Pour one or two drops of green coriander juice in eyes to prevent eruption of small pox boils inside
the eyes.
Boil 20 gm coriander in 400 gm water till it reduces to one-fourth quantity and wash the eyes with the quath to overcome whitish layer, swelling and wound caused due to small pox.
Grind equal quantities of coriander seeds and barley and tie the poultice on eyes to relieve swelling.
Goiter - grind 10-20 gm coriander and take with barley powder to over- come goiter.
Throat pain - Chew five to ten coriander seeds twice or thrice daily to relieve throat pain.
Headache - Soak equal quantities of coriander and myrobalan in water, crush it nicely and sieve, add sugar candy and drink to relieve headache.
Bad breathe - Chew five to ten grams of coriander regularly to overcome odor in breathe.
